Stay Fit and Healthy

Staying healthy during the pandemic takes more than getting a COVID-19 shot

It’s also important to be active and avoid filling up on pandemic comfort food. Getting exercise and eating healthy foods doesn’t require a lot of time or expense.
Here are some tips:

Workout Options

Going outside for walks or runs is an easy and fun way to stay in shape. You can walk around your neighborhood or on local trails. Some schools have tracks that the public can use. The good news is that your chance of catching COVID-19 outdoors is very low. Make sure you dress right for the weather. If the cold weather keeps you inside, you can work out at home. Search for free online workout videos that get you moving. Find ones you enjoy that help you get limber, build muscles and improve your heart health. If working out at home doesn’t work, try a local gym. Keep in mind that you’re taking on some added risk. Here are a few things you can do to keep that risk as low as possible:

  • Get your shots – Vaccines for COVID-19 and the flu help protect you from getting these illnesses. And if you do catch one of these viruses, the shots can help reduce how sick you get. Find out more on available vaccine clinics and register today, or call 844-930-1779 to make an appointment.
  • Get Boosted, too – Booster shots are now available and recommended for vaccinated people 16 and older after their first full dose – two months after the Johnson & Johnson single-shot and six months after either of the two-dose Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Read more about boosters at the Rhode Island Department of Health website.
  • Wear a mask – N-95 masks and KF-94 masks offer the best protection. They filter out pathogens in the air. Less virus means less chance of infection.
  • Check – and follow – your gym’s rules – Gyms may increase space between workout areas, wipe down surfaces (or ask users to wipe them down after use) and require staff to have a COVID-19 vaccine. Make sure your gym has taken steps to keep you safe.
