Tufts Health Plan is switching to OptumRx. See what it means for you.

A better way to get the medications you need.

November 08, 2022

On January 1, 2023, Tufts Health Plan will begin using OptumRx as our pharmacy benefit manager. CVS Pharmacy will remain in our pharmacy network so you can continue to fill your prescriptions at your local CVS. Here’s more good news: We expect this change to be seamless, with no anticipated impact on your benefits.

Healthier lives are also simpler ones, so we’re making it easier to find information about your benefits, manage prescriptions and review pricing options.

How to prepare

Here are a few simple ways you can get ready for January 1, 2023, based on your pharmacy needs:

  • Look for your new Tufts Health Plan member ID card. It includes OptumRx information. Current members should receive new ID cards in the mail in the coming months. Share your new card with your pharmacy for any prescriptions you fill on or after January 1, 2023. You can discard your old ID card after January 1.
  • If you use specialty pharmacies, you may hear from OptumRx. OptumRx specialty pharmacy will reach out to you directly. If applicable, you should receive a call from a patient care coordinator who will help walk you through the next steps. OptumRx specialty pharmacy does more than just fill prescriptions for specialty medications — they provide resources and one-on-one support 24/7.
  • Sign up with OptumRx home delivery if you take long-term medications. Home delivery prescriptions that have refills available will automatically move to OptumRx. Please plan to have at least a one-month supply of your current long-term medications on hand.
