Treatment cost estimator

Get costs before you get care

Prices for the exact same procedure can vary by hundreds or even thousands of dollars depending on where you go for care.

So before you make an appointment, use the treatment cost estimator tool to estimate and compare your out-of-pocket cost at different providers. Then you can choose quality care that will save you money and fit your budget.1

The treatment cost estimator also helps you:

  • Search for a doctor or hospital by name or specialty
  • Understand how your health benefits apply to expected out-of-pocket costs
  • Use the information to plan your budget for the care you need
  • See treatment timelines from evaluation through follow-up and discuss the right option with your doctor

Some common procedures2 you can save on include:

  • CT Scans
  • X-rays
  • MRIs
  • Colonoscopy
  • Endoscopy

The treatment setting for care can be as important as the actual provider when it comes to saving money. This is particularly true for the low-risk outpatient procedures above. They often cost considerably less when patients receive them at an in-network freestanding medical facility rather than at an in-network hospital outpatient department. So keep this in mind when choosing where to get care.

See treatment timelines

You can also use the treatment cost estimator to find treatment timelines for surgeries and long-term health problems. Cost estimates within the treatment timeline include the timeframe and average total cost estimates from evaluation to follow-up — personalized with your specific plan details and even the medications you are likely to need. You can use this information to discuss with your doctor the right treatment option for you.

Treatment timelines can help you better understand these stages in your procedure:

  • Evaluation: Your doctor will discuss your current health situation and medical history. Laboratory or diagnostic screening tests, imaging exams, and referrals to other health care providers may occur during this stage.
  • Procedure: Your doctor(s) will perform the procedure you chose and will provide care before after your procedure. You will receive information about follow-up care and medicines during this stage.
  • Follow-up: Your care will focus on improving your day-to-day functioning.

  2. Depending on your plan, you may need to check with your primary care provider to see if you need a referral or pre-authorization for your procedure and always refer to your member benefit documents for details regarding benefits and coverage.
