The 41st Annual Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women
Monday, October 9, 2017
Congratulations to all that took part in the 40th Annual Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women!
Thank you for joining us in our celebration of health and fitness. All of you started strong, and finished so much stronger!
Tufts Health Plan is dedicated to helping people in the community “Start Strong, Finish Stronger” at the 41st Annual Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women on Monday, October 9, 2017.
Tufts Health Plan took up the sponsorship of the race in 1985 and has developed the day into a Celebration of Health and Fitness for the whole family to enjoy. The Celebration of Health and Fitness includes a 1K Walk for Kids, pre-race aerobics, and a post-race stretch, as well as vendor demonstrations and a sports expo.
In 2000, the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women again grew in numbers of participants and continues to grow every year with over 7,000 participating runners in 2016.
In addition to the runners, the race draws nearly 20,000 spectators who gather to watch and cheer on the runners and participate in the activities on the Boston Common.
Approximately 100 of Boston’s policemen and policewomen, representing four police jurisdictions, assist with this race.
The majority of the women who run are dedicated to this particular race. They have run for years with friends, daughters, mothers, sisters, and colleagues and are fully supportive of this tradition. Some of the women have gone on to run marathons, having been inspired by this 10K. Others just run the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women every year. There are at least 18 women who have run the race every year since its inception in 1977.
