What is cultural competency?

Quality Interactions, Tufts Health Plan's cultural competency training vendor, defines cultural competence as follows:

"Cultural competence in health care describes the ability of systems and health care professionals to improve high-quality care to patients with diverse values, beliefs and behaviors, including delivery to meet each individual’s social, cultural and linguistic needs."

Below is a list of cultural competency training options available for providers:

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services: Office of Minority Health – Think Cultural Health

  • Free
  • Nine hours of continuing medical education (CME) credits offered

Georgetown University: National Center for Cultural Competence – Distance Learning

  • Various training topics available
  • Free

MassHealth One Care: “Principles of Cross Cultural Competence”

Attestation (for Tufts Health Unify Only)

Complete the Cultural Competency Attestation Form to confirm your cultural competency training.

Note: Though it is a requirement for providers rendering services to Tufts Health Unify members to complete the attestation form, the form is available for all providers who render services to Tufts Health Public Plans products.
