Point32Health brings together two of New England’s top health plans

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan today announced the name of its parent organization, Point32Health. Inspired by the 32 points on a compass, our new name represents the role the organization plays in guiding and empowering our 2.2 million members and making a meaningful impact across the health care industry.

As Point32Health, we will continue to deliver the trusted, high-quality services our members expect and demand, with a reinvigorated focus on creating a new health care journey that is more personal and seamless than ever before. As a leading health and well-being organization with 90 years of combined service, Point32Health makes it our purpose to guide and empower healthier lives for everyone — regardless of age, health, race, identity or income — by working differently.

While Point32Health is the name of our parent organization, the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan brands will continue to appear in the marketplace for the foreseeable future.

Today’s announcement of our new organization’s name and brand marks the beginning of our future and further solidifies who we are and the value we deliver in the marketplace.

Announcing our new CEO Cain Hayes

The combined organization of Tufts Health Plan and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care announced today the appointment of Cain Hayes as its new chief executive officer.

Cain brings a wealth of experience to the CEO role as a seasoned health care veteran with a distinguished track record of success. He will officially join the organization on July 5, 2021.

Cain currently serves as president and CEO of Gateway Health located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he is responsible for the strategy and day to day operations of one of the nation’s top-ranked managed care organizations. Prior to joining Gateway Health, Cain served as president and COO of Health Business at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. Prior to joining Blue Cross, he was president of National Accounts, president of the Mid-America region and president of the Government-sector and Labor division for Aetna.

Tom Croswell, who has served as CEO of the organization since it officially combined on January 1, 2021, announced his retirement in late January and will remain with the organization until the end of July in an advisory role. Tom will work closely with Cain and the board to ensure an effective and smooth leadership transition.

The appointment of Cain follows a thorough recruitment process overseen by a selection committee of the organization’s board of directors, which vetted and interviewed a diverse slate of experienced internal and external candidates. The committee retained a national executive search firm to provide support through the search process.
