Tufts Health Plan and MassHealth are committed to providing access to family planning and reproductive health services for our members. This includes abortions and emergency contraceptives, which continue to be legal and accessible in Massachusetts.

MassHealth covers a broad range of family planning, reproductive health and postpartum care (services for at least 12 months postpartum) at no cost to MassHealth members. These services include:

• Family planning services
  • A 12-month supply of prescription contraception (pills, patches, rings or injectable birth control)
  • Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), which include intrauterine devices (Mirena, Paragard, etc.) and Nexplanon
  • Emergency contraception (a.k.a. Plan B or the morning-after pill) without a prescription
  • Wellness exams including breast exams, pelvic and pap exams, and birth control counseling
  • Testing for sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis
• Pregnancy, birth and postpartum care
  • Prenatal visits
  • Pregnancy health care counseling, including smoking and substance use counseling
  • Pregnancy-risk assessment and monitoring
  • Labor and delivery, including postpartum visit(s)
  • Postpartum depression and anxiety screening and treatment
• Abortion services
  • Surgical abortion (in-person procedure)
  • Medication abortion (including Mifepristone and Misoprostol)
