Out-of-Area Network effective July 1, 2016
To support our continuous effort to expand access to high quality providers while reducing out of pocket costs, Tufts Health Plan intends to replace Multiplan’s PHCS Network with Cigna’s Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network.
This new Out-Of-Area (OOA) PPO network will provide an expanded network for members enrolled in an OOA PPO plan that are seeking services outside of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
The effective date of this change is anticipated to be July 1, 2016.
Members enrolled in the OOA PPO plan will be able to access covered services at the in-network level of benefits through:
- The Tufts Health Plan network in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire
- The Cigna PPO network in all other states
National Provider Network
The Tufts Health Plan network in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire consists of 110 hospitals and nearly 45,000 providers. Cigna’s national PPO Network offers more than 800,000 providers and 6,000 hospitals.
When obtaining services in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, you must use a Tufts Health Plan network provider to receive the in-network level of benefits.
When obtaining services in all other states, you must use a Cigna PPO network provider to receive the in-level network of benefits.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This Cigna provider search will return some provider types that are not part of our Out-of-Network Program. Please disregard the following provider types:
- Dentists in any state
- Medical Providers located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire
