Welcome from the President and CEO
To your health
Like many, you may be worried about coronavirus, what it is, and what you can do to protect yourself. However, to help put the situation in perspective, the flu remains the highest concern right now across the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that there have been at least 29 million cases of the flu this season along with at least 280,000 hospitalizations.1
Therefore, the main thing you can do to stay healthy is to get a flu vaccine and encourage others to do the same. For more information on the flu and coronavirus, I encourage you to read our article, “What You Need to Know about Coronavirus.”
When it comes to protecting your family, another important vaccine that you may not have heard as much about is the HPV vaccine. If you are a parent, you are probably familiar with most of the preventive care recommended for children, like annual well visits and vaccinations for other diseases like measles and polio. But the HPV vaccine is one of the newer recommendations and you may have questions about it. To help answer them, we are featuring an article in this issue about six important facts you should know about the vaccine.
Vaccines are an essential part of family health and public health. Diseases can spread easily through a community and make many people sick. By getting vaccinated, you can protect yourself, your loved ones and others around you.
On behalf of Tufts Health Plan, I wish you good health during these final weeks of winter.
