2021 Medical Loss Ratio (MLR) Rebate Information

Massachusetts and Federal Information

August 08, 2022

Massachusetts and Federal law (Affordable Care Act) requires that health insurance companies spend a minimum percentage of premium dollars on medical claims, including clinical services and activities designed to improve health care quality. The MLR standard applies to health insurance plans offering group or individual coverage. It does not apply to self-insured plans.

Massachusetts and Federal MLR rebates and notification letters from Tufts Associated Health Maintenance Organization, Inc. or Tufts Insurance Company (TICO) will be sent to employer groups and individuals, postmarked by August 31, 2022. The following Massachusetts commercial products are eligible for a rebate: HMO, POS, and PPO. Tufts Health Public Plans employers groups and individuals are not eligible for a rebate for 2021.
