Our Communities and COVID-19
Black and Latinx communities have disproportionately represented the number of positive COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and age-adjusted deaths in New England and beyond.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, nine of the top ten cities and towns with highest infection rates are communities with more than 50% representation of people of color, including: Chelsea, Brockton, Lawrence, Everett, Lynn, Revere, Randolph, Worcester and Lowell.
Tufts Health Plan and others in the health care community have been exploring practical actions we can undertake to address the disparities exacerbated by the pandemic.
Our health equity committee has established a taskforce to implement actions to support members in communities most impacted by COVID-19. Our leadership is also represented on the Mass. COVID-19 Health Equity Taskforce and the MAHP Racial Disparities Work Group to advance health equity in the age of COVID-19.
